About Organic Yellow Split Peas

Organic yellow split peas are a type of legume that is high in protein, fiber, and nutrients. They are a good source of plant-based protein and are often used as a meat alternative in vegetarian and vegan dishes. Yellow split peas are also a good source of iron, folate, and other essential minerals.

Yellow split peas are a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of dishes, such as soups, stews, curries, and purees. They are easy to cook and can be prepared in a variety of ways, including boiling, simmering, and pressure cooking. They have a creamy, nutty flavor and a soft, buttery texture when cooked.

Cooking Instructions: To cook organic yellow split peas, you will need:

  • 1 cup of organic yellow split peas
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 teaspoon of salt (optional)

Rinse the yellow split peas in a fine mesh strainer under cold running water.

Add the rinsed split peas, water, and salt (if using) to a medium saucepan.

Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, uncovered, until the split peas are tender, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Drain any excess water and use the cooked split peas in your favorite recipes.

Recipes you can try:

  1. Split Pea Soup: In a pot, sauté 1 diced onion and 2 cloves of minced garlic in a small amount of oil until the onion is translucent. Add the cooked split peas, 1 diced carrot, 1 diced celery stalk, 1 diced potato, and 6 cups of vegetable broth. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve hot.
  2. Split Pea Dip: In a food processor, combine 1 cup of cooked split peas, 1/2 cup of tahini, the juice of 1 lemon, and 2 cloves of minced garlic. Process until smooth, adding water as needed to reach your desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve with crackers or vegetables for dipping.
  3. Split Pea Curry: In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add 1 diced onion and 2 cloves of minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent. Add 1 teaspoon of curry powder, 1/2 teaspoon of cumin, and 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric, and cook for 1-2 minutes longer. Add 1 cup of cooked split peas, 1 cup of diced vegetables (such as carrots, bell peppers, and potatoes), and 1 cup of coconut milk. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender. Serve over rice or with naan bread.

Plastic Packaging

Our subscription service offers a fuss-free way to shop with no plastic packaging in sight. Every year, between 5 and 13 million tonnes of plastic leak into the world's oceans. Fish and other sea creatures eat this plastic, which then enters the food chain and may end up on your dinner plate. By 2050, the oceans will contain more plastic than fish by weight.

Food Waste

Planning your meals, and refilling your jars, can help you reduce food waste. In the UK alone, over two million tonnes of food is wasted each year—enough for 1.3 billion meals!

Single-use Plastics

While the UK uses 1.1 billion single-use plastics and 4.25 billion items of single-use cutlery each year, only 10% are recycled when they're disposed of. At Fin And Earth, we’re proud to offer a wide selection of zero-waste groceries and lifestyle products that help reduce the consumption of single-use plastics.
