About Organic Millet

Organic Millet is a versatile and ancient grain that has been cultivated for thousands of years across the globe. Originally hailing from Africa and Asia, this hardy crop thrives in a variety of climates, making it a staple food for numerous cultures. With over a dozen different species of millet, the most common varieties include pearl, foxtail, finger, and proso millets. Each variety boasts its own unique characteristics, offering a diverse range of flavors, textures, and culinary applications.

The cultivation of millet dates back to the prehistoric era, with evidence of its existence as early as 8300 BCE. This grain played an important role in the development of ancient civilizations, such as those in China and India, where it served as a vital food source. Millet was also an essential crop for the Romans and Greeks, who utilized it in various dishes and religious ceremonies.

Today, millet continues to be a significant part of the culinary landscape in many regions, particularly in Africa and Asia. It is a fundamental ingredient in a multitude of traditional dishes, from porridges and flatbreads to fermented beverages and even sweets. The grain's adaptability, combined with its ease of cultivation and storage, has made it a popular choice for small-scale farmers in arid and semi-arid regions.

In addition to its rich history and cultural significance, millet has become a symbol of sustainable agriculture, as it requires fewer resources and is more resilient to climate change than many other cereal crops.

Plastic Packaging

Our subscription service offers a fuss-free way to shop with no plastic packaging in sight. Every year, between 5 and 13 million tonnes of plastic leak into the world's oceans. Fish and other sea creatures eat this plastic, which then enters the food chain and may end up on your dinner plate. By 2050, the oceans will contain more plastic than fish by weight.

Food Waste

Planning your meals, and refilling your jars, can help you reduce food waste. In the UK alone, over two million tonnes of food is wasted each year—enough for 1.3 billion meals!

Single-use Plastics

While the UK uses 1.1 billion single-use plastics and 4.25 billion items of single-use cutlery each year, only 10% are recycled when they're disposed of. At Fin And Earth, we’re proud to offer a wide selection of zero-waste groceries and lifestyle products that help reduce the consumption of single-use plastics.
